William Porcher Dubose Reminiscences, 1836-1878

William Porcher Dubose served as aConfederate soldier and chaplain in Virginia and was captured and imprisoned at FortDelaware. During Reconstruction he was an Episcopal minister in Abbeville andWinnsboro, S.C., and became a theologian at the University of the South at Sewanee,Tenn., in 1871. The collection consists of a typed transcription ofDubose's reminiscences. It contains informal recollections by Dubose of hischildhood on Farmington and Roseland plantations in Fairfield County, nearWinnsboro, S.C., including discussion of his education at Mt. Zion Academy, theCitadel, and the University of Virginia and theological studies at Camden,S.C.
